For the second year in a row, Katharine Hurd, former soloist with the Boston Ballet Company and founder of the non-profit Commonwealth Ballet Company, has been named the chairperson of the Mermaid Ball.

Katharine credits her ballet career with giving her experience in staging events.  A long-time supporter of the National Marine Life Center, she began volunteering with the organization in 2009 after seeing a lecture on the need for a marine animal hospital to help stranded pilot whales, dolphins, seals, and sea turtles.

We’re pleased to announce that the GinaMark Band has confirmed they will play the 2012 Mermaid Ball!

GinaMark has cultivated a fresh sound all their own, their songs embody the soul of Billy Joel, the kick of Janice Joplin, the power of Heart, and the textures of Fleetwood Mac. Top industry pros have called Gina’s voice “a knockout” and her powerful performance is complimented by Mark Alexander’s high energy rock n’ roll piano playing.  With a song list that takes you from the 50′s right to todays music, GinaMark is sure to please the Mermaid Ball audience. They mix pop, rock, country and a little bit of blues.

This popular south of Boston band began performing as GINAMARK in 1996. Since then they have performed in music venues throughout Cape Cod and New England, hosted & performed at benefit concerts, headlined at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston, and have opened for Sammy Kirshaw at Indian Ranch and the Temptations Review and Vicki Lawrence at Plymouth Memorial Hall.

GINAMARK’s first CD, “Fool’s Gold”, produced by Anthony Resta (Collective Soul, Sean Mullins, Duran Duran) went national, charting alongside the likes of Elton John & Mariah Carey in Gavin’s A/C “Up & Coming.”

Their original songs Nothing but You, Walk to Love and Truth were aired on primetime nationwide soaps One life to Live and All My Children.
